Why a flag?

Why do you think that our country thought it was necessary to make a flag? What is the point of a flag? Historically, flags were used as a symbol in battles, like the one below. It was thought to be used by Iran in a battle in the third millennium B.C. (3600- 2100 BC).THAT'S A LONG TIME AGO!!! It showed that the Iranian army was approaching the enemy. 

What different purposes do you think a flag serves now? Do flags only represent countries? Can flags be used in other ways? Where do you see flags most often? Please make a comment to contribute to this discussion and then comment on someone else's comment as well.

Flags can be used in many ways like for decoration, warnings, and you can even use them for a LANGUAGE!!!

I see the American flag outside churches,stores,and more.
I think that the american flag can be used in a cake,a card,or even a poster.

I see flags most often in front of buildings and in front of schools. I think that I see them in front of schools because they want to represent their freedem that they have in this country.

Why would you bring a flag into battle? I mean that is rediculous. Aren't you supposed to respect the flags, not let them get shot or get blown up?

but you could still use posters or a symbol that looks like the flag like tanks in the army have so like Luke said, they don't get blown up. That would be cool to see though.

I think that it shows our country’s identity and represents the citizens too.
The flag not only represents countries, but it can also represent an organization, a group of people, a city, a state, or a cause.
The flag can be seen at banks, houses, and government buildings.

The flag is a symbol to represent our country.I see a flag in front of schools most often. I think I see them at schools the most because the kids at the school are all a part of the country the flag represents.

I think that our country thought it was necessary because it shows a sign that we appreciate our country and want to represent our flag in a respectful way. The point is that we represent our country and show pride. A different purpose of the flag is that in war it shows who's side you are on. Flags don't only represent countries. They also can represent states, teams, and honor. I see flags at car dealerships and churches.

Other perposes that flags can be used is by saying which team we are on or represent that team.So that says that flags don't just represent countrys.I see flags everywere.In front of schools,in frount of houses,and also on top of stores sometimes.But there is lots of diffrent places that have flags.

I think people use the flag to symbolize that they are proud to live in America! I see flags at restraruants and schools. People probably made the the flag to more show their independence from England. Great comment, Noah!! I definitely agree!
